TEE SE ITSE, KEITTIÖTASOJEN VÄRINVAIHTO. Kovapuu, Ruskeasta harmaaseen
(DIY, KITCHEN COUNTER COLOR CHANCE. Hardwood, from brown to grey. English version below)

Noniin, taas vähän sisustus hommia.
Vaimohan keksi että nyt vaihtuu nuo vanhat ruskeat pöytätasot...
Oli jopa ostanut uuden hiomakoneen ku kerroin että entinen on rikki 😆

Nämähän on sitten ihan omia projekteja ja tekotavat on mitä on... En tiiä onko ihan niinku ohjeiden mukaan pitäs tehä, mutta lopputuloshan ratkaisee 😉

Käytiin sitten ykspäivä ohimennessä k-raudassa ja ostettiin Osmo puuvahaa (kelo väri) aika tyyristä, mutta riittoisaa. Tuollainen 0,75l purkki makso noin 45€

VAHA

Sitten yks viikonloppuilta aloitettiin hionta hommat.Ensin tietenki teipattiin nuo reunat ja muut rosteri pinnat, ettei kovin naarmuuntuis.

SUOJAUS

Ensin hionta karkeilla hiomapapereilla, 40 karkeus.
Onneksi oli koneessa imuri liitäntä nii ei tarvinu suojata koko kämppää.
Pitkiä hitaita vetoja puun syiden mukaisesti, ja varoo ottamasta liikaa yhdestä kohti.
Meillä oli tuo ruskea väri aika tiukassa, joten 2 kertaa karkeammalla. Kannattaa sitten vähän painaakkin tuossa kun hioo, muuten joutuu melkolailla hinkkaamaan.

HIONTA

2KERTAA HIOTTU KARKEAMMALLA

Sitten vaihdettiin hiomapaperi pikkusen hienonpaan 60 karkeus

HIONTA

Taas hiottiin kaksi kertaa.Viimeisenä hienompaa paperia 100 karkeus ja taas kaksi kertaa... vielä pikkusen otin hienommalla (180karkeus), Naarmuthan ei näy vasta kun värillisessä pinnassa, jos niitä jää 😉 eli ei oikein halua riskeerata

Nurkat ja altaan vierustat meni sitten käsin ja puupalikan avulla. Karkealla ja hienommalla. Nämähän meillä ei kovin näy kun on niin pienet alueet ja pimeä kulma ilman valoa.

KÄSINHIONTA

Nyt taso oli hiottu

TASO HIOTTU

Sitten vielä lisäsuojaus kaapeille ja lattialle tarviettaessa ennekuin ruvetaan sotkemaan öljyn kanssa... Sehän uleensä roiskuu ja kaatuilee pitkin jokapaikkaa 😅

Yks vaahtomuovitelakin löyty varastosta, joten sillä ajattelin laittaa vahan pintaan.

Sitten alko vahan levitys.
Tällaisilla ohjeilla mentiin (huom, tämä on oma tekemä piirros 😂)

OHJE

VAHAN LEVITYS

Vaha pintaan telalla, ja sitten odoteltiin noin 15-20min että imeytyy ... Tuolla telalla saa kyllä ihan hyvin nuo vaikeammatkin nurkat ja altaan vierustat.
Purkissahan lukee että 20min on käsittely aika, mutta senhän huomaa jos alkaa liikaa kuivua kun yrittää puuhkiä liikoja pois.

Eli liiat vahat pois talouspyyhkeellä... Sitä muuten irtos aikalailla tuosta tasosta ja mietin että olikohan tämä nyt ihan oikein tehty.

LIIAN VAHAN POISTO

Jotenki tuntu kyllä vahan tuhlaukselta, mutta kai se näin oli ihan hyvä 😊

Se näytti ensin melko vaalealta ja siltä ettei tasoon paljon vahaa jäänykkään. Kuivumisaika on 24 tuntia ennen toista käsittelyä...

ENSIMMÄINEN VAHAKERROS

Omasta mielestä tämä oli aika hyvin tummunut yön aikana, ja nuo meidän taso valotkin vääristää hieman (Varsinkin kun kuvat on otettu puhelimella)

Sitten laitettiin toinen kerros vahaa pintaan.
Mullahan yleensä jotain aina sattuu ku näitä videoita teen ja tällä kertaa en pyyhkäissyt vahapurkin reunaa kun kaadoin vahaa astiaan ja paukautin sitten kannen paikoilleen... Sitä vahaahan lensi pitkin pöytiä, tuoleja ja ikkunoita

VAHAT PÖYDÄLLÄ, TUOLEILLA JA IKKUNASSA

Ensin koitin äkkiä pyyhkiä pois, mutta eihän se nuista penkeistä ainakaan lähtenyt, leves vaan 😆.
Onneks oli tuota tärpättiä niin hyvin lähti.

TÄRPÄTILLÄ SIIVOUS

Toinen kerros kun oli levitetty niin mietittiin pitkään että uskaltaako sitä pyyhkiä pois, vai jätetäänkö tällaiseksi... Pelotti vaan ettei se enää tartu ja taso jää melko puiseksi...

VAHA PINNASSA

Ei siitä oikein nuita puunsyitä näkynyt kun vahaa oli niin paljon...
No, lopulta sitten pyyhittiin ja melko vaaleaksi jäin... Oli kumminkin taas yön aikana ottanut väriä ja lopputulos oli hyvä.

VIIMEINEN VÄRI

Nyt näky puunsyyt ja värikin oli sopivan vaalea.
Puuvaha purkin kyljessä lukee että suositellaan kovan kulutuksen pinnoille, toiseksi käsittelykerraksi Osmo öljyvahaa. Nyt vaan tarvittiin sitten sellaista öljyä.
Ostin sitten tuollaisen Osmon öljyvahan. Näitähän ei ollut pienempiä kuin tuo 0,75l purkki ja se makso muistaakseni noin 36€. Purkin kyljessä lukee että Osmo öljyvaha on erityisesti puun pohjustamiseen.... TÄ? Tämä parantaa tasojen nestekestoa, eli hyvä tälle allastaso pinnalle 😉

Tuota varastosta löyty myös vanhaa patjaa, niin leikkailin siitä pari palasta vahan levitykseen. En ostanut sellaisia oikeita vaahtomuovi siveltimiä kun ne makso 6,5€ kappale. Tämähän nyt vähän enemmän imee itseensä öljyä, mutta ei voi mitään 😄

OIKEA VAAHTOMUOVI SIVELLIN

VAAHTOMUOVI PALA

ÖSMO ÖLJYVAHA

Levitin kerroksen öljyä pintaa ja annoin imeytyä noin 25-30min, ja sitten pyyhkäsin ylimääräiset pois.
Kuivumisaika tällä öljyllä on 12 tuntia.

ÖLJY ENSIMMÄINEN KERROS

Tässä samalla aloitettiin myös keittiön saareke joka oli myös ruskea, pikkusen jälessä, mutta olihan tämä kokeilu pakko aloittaa tuosta halvemmasta tasosta (Tämän levyistä tasoa saa miltein joka kaupasta, jos olisi mennyt pieleen)

Eli tällekkin tasolle samat hommat

-Hionta 2x 40karkeus. -hionta 2x 60karkeus. -hionta 2x100karkeus.
-Vaha (20min imeytys, pyyhkäisy, 24tuntia kuivuminen)
-Toinen vaha kerros (20min imeytys, pyyhkäisy, 24tuntia kuivuminen)
-Öljy (30min imeytys,pyyhkäisy,12 tuntia kuivuminen) x2

SAAREKE HIOTTUNA

VAHA PINNASSA (Huom! Ei pyyhitty)

Tuo hionta tosiaan kannattaa tehdä kunnolla. Harmaassa pinnassa näkyy kaikki epätasaiset hiontajäljet ja naarmut. Eli suosittelisin vielä hiomaan hienommalla paperilla viimeisen silauksen (esim jollain 180karkeudella)

Puussa olevat kolothan sai jotenkin kuuman veden kans nostettua takaisin ylös, mutta tässä en käyttänyt sitä kikkaa.

Sitten nämä viimeiset öljykerrokset.

Tämä tasohan oli yhden öljykerroksen edellä saareketta.
Meille oli tulossa vaimon sukulaisia tuolta Helsingistä joten vlaitoin sitten vielä viimeisen kerroksen öljyä pitkään tasoon ja ensimmäisen kerroksen saarekkeeseen aamulla ennen töihin lähtöä ja pyyhin ylimääräiset pois.

HUOM!!! Nämä paperit ja kaikki mikä on roskiin menossa, pitää liottaa vedessä... Muka saattaa syttyä itsestään palamaan, koska niissä on pellavaöljyä

ÖLJY TASOISSA

Töistä kun sitten tulin, niin saarekkeeseen vielä toinen kerros öljyä...
Lapsia oli myös tulossa ja öljy oli vielä märkää... Eli tämä aluehan piti jotenkin suojata...
Ei ollut mitään värillistä nauhaa niin Ilmastointiteippihän kävi tähänkin hommaan 😆

ALUE ERISTETTY

Mietin että oiskohan pitäny vielä maalata tuo teippi jollai räikeällä värillä, mutta eipä siitä varmaan ois ollu apua 😄
Poitsu vaan yhdessä vaiheessa kyseli että miksi tuo teippi on tuossa, ja ehittiin just selittää kun vastas vaan että AHA... Otti sitten pöydän kulmasta kiinni ja hyppäs teipin yli 😭
Siinähän oli nyt sitten sormen jäljet öljyssä... Sai onneks vielä pyyhittyä jäljet pois ja laitoin sitten vielä paperilaput tuohon teippiin lisäksi (EI PYÖTÄÄN) 😅

LAPUT TEIPISSÄ

Nyt se sai olla sen 12 tuntia ja vähän ylikin rauhassa... ihme kyllä 😂

Pitihän se sitten vielä hieroa tuo kulunut keittotaso kunnolla puhtaaksi.
Ei ollut sellaista oikeaa liesiterää niin koitin hinkata puhtaaksi ensin liesi aineella ja karhunkielellä... Ei lähtenyt.

Olihan mulla varastossa nuita vaihtoterä- / Mattoleikkurin teriä, niillähän se varmasti lähtee, ja lähtikin.

Vaihdettiin vielä nuo vetimet mustiksi, mutta siitä mulla nyt ei ole kuvaa... Varmaan jossain vaiheessa näkyy tuolla vaimon facebookissa tai instagramissa uudet kuvat 😉

Semmonen projekti se.
Tuota entistä ruskeaa ei tarvinut kovin paljoa huoltaa (2 kertaa 9 vuoden aikana), mutta saa nähdä miten tämä harmaa pysyy.
Tämä oli kyllä niin helppo tehdä että suosittelen kokeilemaan ennenkuin ostat uudet tasot. Aikaahan se vaan tarvii,mutta se on sen arvoista

Ok, some decor stuff again.
Wife decided that its time to chance these kitchen countertops...
She even bought new sander when i told the old one is broken 😆

These are my way of doing these things... I dont know if these are correct, but the finish look counts 😉

One day we stopped at the store and bought some woodwax (DEADWOOD Color) Pretty expensive, but plentiful. That 0,75 litre can cost about 45€

WAX

Then we started the work at the weekend.
Firts you need to cover all the surfaces that can be scratched. Then start to dand to tops

COVERING SOME ROSTER

First sand was sandpaper no40.
Gladly the sander had some plug for the vacuum, so i didnt have to cover whole apartment.
Long strokes along the wood grain, and beware not to sand from one place too much.
That brown wax was a bit tight so we sanded 2x whit the rougher paper. U should use some force when sanding, otherwise u need to sand sometime

Then we chanced the paper to less rough, no60

Again, 2 times.
Finally chanced for the smoother paper. no100, and 2x again... I took the last sand with 180 paper. You see the scratch in the color, so i didnt want to risk it 😉

Corners and sink i sanded by hand and used some woodblock to help. First with rougher paper and then chance it to smoother.
Our sink area is so small and have bad lights, so these parts wont show so much.

Then i covered the capinets and some floor, before i started to wax these tops...
Usually its pretty messy  😅

I found one foamroller from warehouse, so i thought i use that to spread the wax.

HELP

WAX SPREADING

Roll in the wax and wait about 15-20minutes, so it sucks in... with roller you can get near corners and sink
In the can, it says 20min work time, but you can see if you let it dry too long when you try to wipe off the exes wax... Its very sticky

So, just wipe of the exes wax. That game out pretty much... I was wondering if this was the right way to do this.

REMOVING EXES WAX

It felt like a waste of wax, but i think this was good 😊

First it appered very light and that the top didnt have much color left. Dry time is about 24hours before second threatment.

FIRST LAYER OF WAX

I think the color was abit darker when it did dry. Our top lights are very bad and specially when i take the pictures with my cellphone.

Then the second layer of the wax.
I usually have some misshapening when i shoot these videos. This time it was the wax can. I didnt wipe the exes wax off from the can and pushed it shut... Wax just exploded to the window, benches and table

I tryed to wipe then off fast, but it stucked to the benches 😆.
Gladly i had that turpentine, and it got off

CLEANING WITH TURPENTINE

When we got the second layer to the top, we thought if we even should wipe the wax off, or just leave it like this and let it dry... We were just scared that the second layer wont suck in and the wax will come off when wiped...

WAX ON

The woodgarin didnt show under this waxlayer...
We decided to wipe it clean, and it got a bit lighter colored... It did took in some color after dryed, and the finish was good

FINAL COLOR

Now the woodgrain was showing and the color was good.
It says in the at the can that its recomented that you use for the second threatment, an oilwax. So, now i just neede that.
I bought ths waxoil, and there was only 0,75l option, and it cost about 36€. That waxoil can sayd that its for the promering the surfaces... WHAT? But its also to enchant the water resistant, so it was good for this surface  😉

I also had some old mattress in the warehouse so i just cutted few pieces from that to spread the oil. Didnt want to buy the proper ones because they cost about 6,5€/piece. My mattress sucks in more oil, but thats ok 😄

I spread the oil with foam and let it sit about 25-30min. And then wipe the exes off.
It need to dry 12h before new layer.

1ST LAYER OF THE OIL

While we were working with this, we also got the kichen island to work with.
Needed to try this coloring for the cheaper top first (This widht top u can get almoust any hardware store)

ISLAND BEFORE

Same stuff for this top.
-Sand 2x 40grain. -Sand 2x60grain. -sand 2x100grain.
-Wax (20min soak, wipe and 24hour wait)
-2nd wax layer (20min soak, wipe and 24hour wait)
Oil (30min soak, wipe and 12hour dry) x2

ISLAND SANDED

WAX ON (Not wiped)

That sanding should be done perfectly. In gray surface it shows all the sanding marks and scratch. So i adwise to sand the final sand with smoothest paper (mayby 180grain)

You can lift up every dent from the wooden counter top with some sort of hot water trick, but i didnt use that in this project.

Then the final oil layers

This sink top was 1 layer ahead of the island top.
Some family was coming to visit so i but on the last layer of oil to the sink top and first layer to the island top at the morning before work and wiped the exes oil off.

WARNING!!! U need to water these papers and everything you used for the waxing and oiling. Those has flaxoil in them, so they might burst to flame by itself.

When i returned from work, i added the second layer to the island top.
There was some children coming also, so i needed to block the area somehow...
I didnt have any colorfull ribbon, so i just used ducktape 😆

AREA BLOCKED

I wondered if i should paint the tape with some colorfull paint, but didnt think it would help  😄

My son asked me why this tape was here... I explauned and he just sayd ok, Crapped the table and jumped over the tape  😭
Now there was fingerprints all over the oil... Gladly i got the wiped off and i added some warning paper to warn about the table (DONT TOUCH THE TABLE) 😅

Now it got to be in peace for the 12hour, and more. supricingly  😂

Had to also clean our weardown cooking stove.
I didnt have the proper blade for the glass, so i tryed with some sponge and stove cleaning produckt... Didnt work.

I did have some mattcutter blades at the warehouse and that did do the job

We also chanced the pullers for the black ones, but i dont have any good picture from that... I think my wife will put on some pictures later to her sites. 😉

Thats it.
Previous brown color didnt need much maintenance (2x in 9 years), but will see with this color.
This was a easy project and i recomend that you try this before bying new countertops
